Frequency Asked Questions
Q: Why would I use Halifax DJ services for my event/wedding reception?
A: A few key points:
- I specialize in wedding receptions and corporate events
- I have over 25 years experience
- Unlike DJ agencies who have a group of DJ’s, when you book with me, I will be the DJ who shows up to your event.
- I love being a DJ and it shows in professionalism and performance
- I inspect my equipment before leaving for the event to make sure it’s in working order
- Backup laptop (just in case)
- Various awards in the music industry
Q: Will you be our DJ if we hire you for our event?
A: Yes I will be your DJ for your event. I do maintain close friendships with reputable DJs who could take over should the need be there.
Q: What can I expect from you prior to my event and during the event?
A: When you contact me for a quote, I provide a detailed explanation of the charges. My rates are based on the hours needed for the event, so if you don't provide enough information in your initial contact with me, I will ask for the additional information needed prior to giving you a quote. I will never go back on a quote and add additional charges after the fact. During your event, I follow your designated time line, follow your music request list and encourage dancing.
Q: When do you setup?
A: Depending on the setup, setup time will commence 1 hour prior to Start Time or agreed upon.
Q: What is included in my DJ package?
A: Included at no additional cost to your package will be a one-hour meeting before your event so that we can meet in person before your event/wedding day and go over any additional details. The set up and break down is also something that I do at no charge although the set up and breakdown always add at least an hour before and after your event. Travel within a 30 km radius of Halifax is also included.
Q: Do you emcee the reception?
A: Yes, I do! From start to finish I will emcee your reception to announce the Grand March, dinner served, cake cutting, first dance and whatever else you wish to have announced.
Q: What if I want my reception to go past my scheduled end time?
A: All events will plan on being wrapped up and completed by the predetermined time on the agreement. If you want to extend your event because you and your guests are having a great time that is possible. Let me know as soon as possible at your event and an hourly rate will be provided. (Generally $50/hr)
Q: What types of payment methods do you accept?
A: I can accept cash, cheques, e-transfers, credit cards and PayPal. Payments are typically a deposit (reserver) and then final payment the week before your event.
Q: Do you use a contract?
A: Yes, I do use a contract or service agreement for a few reasons. First, it shows all fees, times, locations and makes the details and expectations clear to both parties. When you sign and return your contract it is considered a done deal that I am showing up for your event. The deposit returned with your signed contract allows me to take your date off of the available dates solidifying that I am going to be the DJ at your wedding/reception.
Q: When is the deposit due?
A: The deposit is due at the contract signing. The deposit is non-refundable and is required along with the signed contract to officially obtain my services. Your deposit is included in your price quote and will reduce the amount owed for your event.
Q: What if I have to cancel my DJ reservation?
A: It happens for many different reasons. Unfortunately your deposit is not refundable due to denying other potential clients the day that your event was reserved.
Q: Do you have any references from past clients?
A: Absolutely. I have done hundreds of weddings/events and have “testimonials” from actual clients. Some satisfied clients have even agreed to be phone references and speak with you about their experience. Please contact me to arrange a phone call with one of these reference.
Q: What kind of equipment do you use?
A: All audio components are professional grade level components for quality and reliability purposes. This includes speakers, amplifiers, microphones and the DJ music playback system. I do use the latest in DJ computer playing/library systems to be able to find any one of over 10,000 songs in the music library. All music is licensed (not pirated) for quality assurance.
Q: What is Socan and do you charge Socan fees?
A: As a disc jockey or musician, no we don't charge Socan fees. Socan is a non-profit agency that collects a fee, charged by your venue, to give you or your disc jockey / musicians permission to publicly play any kind of music during your reception or event. Your venue does not have a choice whether it charges the fee as they are responsible for collecting the fee for all events with music.
